I saw this in my tutee's Sec 1 Science Txtbook.
It takes 4.3 light years to get to the nearest star from Earth.
Light travels at 300 000km/s.
1 day = 24 hours = 24 * 60 minutes = 24 * 60 * 60 seconds.
1 year = 24 * 60 * 60 * 365 seconds.
4.3 years = 24 * 60 * 60 * 365 * 4.3 seconds.
Distance between Earth and its nearest star
=24 * 60 * 60 * 365 * 4.3 * 300 000 km
I already thought it was scary enough that light travels at 300 000km/s. That is like... how far la. Damn fast. It's in KM somemore. And it takes reflected light 4.3 years from the nearest star just to get to earth. Just how do astronauts get up the moon and the stars? They have to travel faster than light.. no? Or they'll prob age to death on the space shuttle. I can't imagine myself sitting in a spaceship travelling at 300 000km/s. Imagine if it suddenly stops. Ahhhhh my head will probably be dislocated from my neck and SPLAT! The skin, blood, hair will stick onto the windscreen (or whatever you call that sorry my vocab is limited). And my EYE BALLS! You know those toys you played with when you were young? Like squishy eye balls? I can imagine them sticking onto that windscreen thing like two sunny side-ups. They'll prob be red in colour instead of yellow and white though.
Gross.
